This matters because before the event, Trump had been insisting publicly that it had 'sold out' and that 'everybody wants to be there.' He is a man who has staked a significant portion of his political identity on crowd size. He sued a journalist over crowd-size reporting. The NFL kickoff viewership figures hadn't been released yet as of the Daily Beast's reporting. But here is some useful context: approximately 28 million people watched last season's NFL opener. The convention's livestreams, per The Daily Beast, showed online viewership hovering between the hundreds and low thousands across multiple platforms during the president's speech. That includes the RightSide Broadcasting Network, ABC News Live, and Fox News streams combined.
Hundreds to low thousands versus twenty-eight million. These are not numbers that beat the NFL. These are numbers that lose to a moderately popular podcast.

You are supposed to believe that a president who cannot fill a 20,000-seat arena, whose convention was skipped by every major broadcast network, whose livestreams pulled audiences in the low thousands, somehow beat the NFL in viewership. You are supposed to read his Truth Social posts and update your understanding of reality accordingly. That is the ask.
What actually happened in Dallas is a clean, almost clinical example of how this works. The crowd wasn't full. He said it was packed. Nobody was outside. He said thousands couldn't get in. The speech went 106 minutes over schedule. He will do it all again Thursday. And the lie isn't incidental to the event, it IS the event. The convention exists to generate footage of Trump speaking to supporters. The Truth Social posts exist to generate a counter-narrative for those supporters to share. The arena attendance and the streaming numbers are beside the point, because the point was never the actual audience. The point is the claim.
Newsmax chose a segment about Gayle King over covering this live. Fox News had its anchors doing other things until the man himself showed up. Even the media outlets built to celebrate Donald Trump looked at Trump-a-Palooza and thought, 'We have better content.' That should tell you something. That tells you everything.
