The Democrats took the House and the Senate on Tuesday night, and by Wednesday morning the MAGA movement had turned into a circular firing squad with a podcast network. Alex Jones declared himself "100 percent at war with Trump," Matt Walsh called the president a "lame duck," and Kristi Noem explained that Republicans lost because they were "too successful." Meanwhile, the president himself blamed Fox News for letting Democrats appear on television.

The President Blames the Channel That Has Been Carrying His Water Since 2015

Let's start at the top. As the results rolled in Tuesday night, Donald Trump took to Truth Social to announce that Fox News "bears responsibility for these losses by constantly and consistently putting on the Dumocrat opposition, and worse." That's the network that made him a political force. His own favorite channel, scolded for the crime of letting the other side speak.

Later that night, he called in to Fox anyway, where he congratulated the Democrats on their wins. Then came the real masterstroke. "I wasn't on the Ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!" he wrote, which is the kind of sentence you'd expect from a man explaining why he didn't lose a game he wasn't playing.

He capped the night by posting a picture of a red baseball hat with the word VETO stitched across the front. A merchandising opportunity, apparently, is the correct response to losing both chambers of Congress.

Alex Jones Has Concluded That Trump Is Working for the Democrats

The most entertaining reaction came from Alex Jones, a man who has spent decades warning that frogs are being turned gay and who is now the movement's sharpest analyst. On his show Tuesday night, he said of the president: "I think he's a Democrat, I'm gonna just say it right now. I've tried to salvage Trump, I've not been sure, I've invested so much, maybe I was blind to it, I think he's the ultimate Democrat sleeper cell and he works for them. I'm 100 percent at war with Trump."

Think about the logic here. The Democrats just won the House and the Senate, so the Republican president must be a Democrat plant. It is a theory with all the internal consistency of a fever dream, but at least it's a theory. Jones had to look at a wipeout and reach for the only explanation that preserved his own judgment.

He is not alone in the camp of the betrayed. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who broke with Trump earlier this year, put it more plainly on X: "Tonight was a total referendum on Trump. He told people to vote like he was on the ballot and they did."

Matt Walsh Reads the Room and Names the Iran War

Matt Walsh called the results "a political catastrophe of historic proportions" and described Trump as "a 80 year old lame duck president." He pinned the blame on the decision to start a war with Iran, along with a fixation on trivial matters like trying to rename artificial intelligence "super intelligence" and the White House ballroom.

That's a damning list coming from inside the house. A major right-wing podcaster is essentially saying the president launched a war and then spent his political capital on a ballroom and a vocabulary project. Jack Posobiec and Nick Sortor also pointed at the Iran war, though neither named Trump directly, which in MAGA terms counts as a very loud whisper.

Elon Musk, who poured hundreds of millions of dollars into losing Republican candidates, kept quiet on blame. He did joke that his "election-interfering space lasers didn't work this time," and he called it "interesting" that an exit poll showed the Iran war was a "massive losing issue." Hundreds of millions of dollars, and the review is that it's interesting.

Everybody Has a Different Villain and None of Them Is the Guy in Charge

Mike Cernovich said Trump alienated libertarian voters. Michael Flynn wrote that "someone needs to look in a mirror," then blamed Christians for not turning out. Katie Miller, wife of Stephen Miller, who had boosted election conspiracy theories earlier on Tuesday, blamed the media as "a propaganda arm of the woke left." Chaya Raichik of LibsofTikTok blamed a years-long Democratic plot to import "millions of foreigners."

Lara Logan went with a secret cabal. She blamed an anonymous group of Republicans who conspired to lose so they could "get rid of the MAGA movement and the establishment would retake the party." Kari Lake, Trump's nominee for ambassador to Jamaica, asked her followers whether they had "complete confidence that only legal votes were counted," in the early hours after her own side lost.

Harrison Smith, a host on Steve Bannon's War Room, went after his own colleagues, blaming Laura Loomer, Ben Shapiro, Mark Levin, Will Chamberlain, and AIPAC. Loomer, for her part, stayed loyal, calling Trump "a hero for stopping Iran from having a nuclear weapon" and saying he should "finish the job." So the movement's official position on a war that voters rejected is: more war.

Kristi Noem and the Crime of Winning Too Much

Then there is Kristi Noem, the former homeland security secretary, who bravely accepted responsibility on behalf of the entire party. Republicans lost, she posted on X, because "we were too successful in the first year of the Trump administration."

That is the whole analysis. The voters were so overwhelmed by the victories that they handed the other side both chambers of Congress. It is the political equivalent of a restaurant explaining its closure by saying the food was simply too good.

Meanwhile, Speaker Mike Johnson, who was reelected Tuesday night, said the results were "not what we'd hoped and fought for." He did not say why, or who was responsible. Stephen Miller has not said anything publicly, and neither has the influencer known as DC Draino, who normally posts about politics around the clock. Silence is the one strategy nobody has fully committed to.

The Dingo Take

Republicans lost the House and the Senate, and the movement's response was to hold a seminar on whose fault it was. That's the whole story. Everything else is detail.

Here is the detail, though. Walsh says it was the Iran war. Posobiec says it was the Iran war. Musk says the exit poll shows the Iran war was a massive loser. The president, who started the war, says he wasn't on the ballot, blames Fox News, and posts a hat. When the only people who can't see the cause are the ones who caused it, you're not looking at a mystery. You're looking at a man who needs a mirror, and Mike Flynn already said that part.

And please, spare yourself the idea that this is a great reckoning. Alex Jones will be back on Trump's side by the next news cycle, because the movement has never been about Trump as a person. It's about having someone to be furious at, and right now the targets are the president, Fox, Christians, libertarians, the media, foreigners, and each other. The one thing nobody will consider is that voters watched this show for two years and changed the channel.
