The Guardian reports that Fauci's entries include Julia Roberts saying her throat gets dry when she sees him, Barbra Streisand chatting about vaccines and not knowing what Alexa was, and Fauci accidentally butt-dialing Streisand later that evening. Yes, Fauci appears to have loved being famous. This is not the crime of the century. Lots of people who become unexpectedly famous enjoy it. None of them have been sentenced to prison for it, yet.

Fauci helped guide the United States through its Covid response during a period when the government that now wants to jail him was actively undermining public health messaging. The hearing produced no bombshells about pandemic origins. Use the institutions, the experts, the safety nets, the government competence you publicly despise, then retroactively reframe the entire episode as opposition research. Take the unemployment check while calling welfare a scam. Get the vaccine quietly, then go on television to question the vaccines. Call a man who talked you through a pregnancy panic attack a narcissist and a criminal when his private diary becomes politically inconvenient. The hypocrisy isn't incidental to the brand. It is the brand.
What's actually damning isn't that Fauci wrote a cringe-worthy diary about Barbra Streisand and Julia Roberts.
